LEARNING GOAL: RI6 Determine an author's point of view or purpose in a text.

Today, we are going to discuss the point of view and author's purpose of "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano" and compare the narrator with the narrator of "From the History of Virginia".

Later, you'll in teams, answer questions 1-3 and 7 on page 89.

 First, let us look up the new set of vocabulary and review a possible upcoming essay.

English 11: Native American Stories and Writers of the Exploration Era 

A)   Choose one of the writings that we have read and write an essay of 1-page or more on why the piece needs to be read.  For this assignment you need to make sure you have a hook, a thesis, an order of development, and that you use proof from the text and explain your proof in relation to your thesis. 


B) You will be graded on the following:
      Part I is worth 60 pts.
1)   Hook/Thesis/Order – your set-up.  How well you set up the essay.  (10 pts)
2)   Order – Does your essay follow the order of your set-up and do you have transitions from one paragraph to the next.  (10 pts)
3)   IDEAS – do you have ideas that reveal insight into the text and do you use examples from the text and explain them.  (30 pts)
4)   Word choice – do you use interesting words? (10 pts)
5)   Grammar.  (10 pts)
